Description

We have been fine tuning our cheese offering for 40 years since The Cheese Shop opened in August 1985. In those days customers were asking for Continental Cheeses in the belief that they were far superior to our British Cheeses.
When I am asked what has been my greatest achievement in the shop, it is the fact that our customers are now asking for, appreciating and buying British Artisan Cheeses.  I chose these cheeses because I would consider them the most Traditional Cheeses and over the years they have been amongst our best sellers.
A beautiful balance of flavours, colours and textures that looks and tastes great.
The Traditional Cheeseboard suitable for 6-8 people

Colston Basset Stilton

The most traditional of all Cheeses! In my opinion!

The Colston Basset Dairy Nottinghamshire has been using the same traditional methods since 1913, giving its PDO (Protected Designation of Origin) status. The curds are hand ladled to maintain a delicate structure, while the flavour develops into a smooth, mellow and creamy taste. A pasteurised vegetarian cows milk cheese.

Montgomery Cheddar

This has been on the shelves of The Cheese Shop since I first opened. Made by the wonderful Jamie Montgomery, who is the 3rd generation of family to make this Cheese. One of the few traditional cloth-bound hand made Cheddars, using only milk from their herd of 200 Friesian cows. Matured for 12 months, which leads to a deep, rich, nutty, well balanced mellow flavour. This unpasteurised cheese is made on Manor Farm in Somerset.

Cenarth Brie

This Welsh brie is fantastic, and theses days we sell more of this than the French Brie. It is more delicate and creamy, with a well rounded mushroomy flavour, rich and buttery, and tends to maintain its firmness, whilst going soft and rich in texture.  This organic, pasteurised  vegtarian cheese is made by Caws Cenarth in Carmarthenshire.

Rachel

This is our most popular goats milk cheese, it is from the Whitelake Dairy in Somerset and has won multiple awards over the years.  It is a semi hard rind washed cheese. It has a mild goaty flavour and a mellow, nutty sweetness.
